Possibly the most discussed element of Bike Fitting, saddle selection is key in providing any rider with a stable, comfortable and supportive platform from which to pedal and to ‘cantilever’ their torso forward.
Riders will often use different saddles to support different positions, example, on a road bike versus a time trial bike.
Our saddle choice should be influenced by our desired position and chosen to fit it, rather than allowing a poor saddle choice to dictate limitations on body position. Put another way, we choose hardware to support the position, not a position to compromise for poor hardware choices.
The vast majority of riders can benefit and ‘unlock’ their position potential through the use of a modern saddle profile with considered pressure relief.
